The Vocational Service Lane focuses on recognizing young individuals in our community and encouraging them to continue their involvement in their schools and the community. Through the Student of the Month Program, the Carlisle-Sunrise Rotary Club honors students whose overall involvement has a positive impact on both the school and community. Working with three middle schools in the Greater Carlisle Area, our club honors an 8th, 7th, and 6th grader during the school year from Lamberton Middle School, Yellow Breaches Middle School, and Wilson Middle School. The student and family are invited to attend a designated morning meeting to be recognized for his or her accomplishments and is presented with a certificate and check. The student’s name is engraved on a plaque that currently hangs in each of the middle schools. Our club also encourages and offers assistance to the three Middle Schools in partaking in the “Teacher of the Year” award. In addition to the Student of the Month Program, the Vocational Service Lane also offers assistance to Dickinson College’s Rotaract. Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women that is based on the involvement and participation of students at Dickinson College. The goal is to serve as a mentor to the students as they strive to be rotarians. We also partake in Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), which is Rotary's leadership training program for young people. Our club, with the assistance of the local schools, choose two individuals to attend the one week youth program and sponsor the same. We invite the students to revisit the club and speak about their experience. As described by Rotary Intentional, “RYLA emphasizes leadership, citizenship, and personal growth, and aims to
